Even now, in the 17th Age, Mirugan seems to be in a neverending dark age, with techonology at a bare minimum after the fall of augustgrad and the Starfleet group, the most advanced technology in any given town, even in Rull seeming to be that of a local clock tower or that of the occaisional airship, which for the mostpart are made in a single location, and while exceptions to this rule DO exist, they tend to be primarily mining machines, massive creations meant only to destroy, to collect the materials of the earth in the shortest time possible. And yet, there IS an exception, a place where High Technology is created, and collected en mass.
Founded in the 16th Age, in the Year 1760, ten years after the creation of cliffside, and well after Cliffside had been established as a flourishing mining town, The City of horizon had started out as a simple village, a dumping ground for the waste materials from cliffside, gravel, dirt, etc, and a material that at the time had seemed to have minimal value or use, known as redstone. With no real export that was of any value from horizon, the city seemed doomed to never grow beyond a small town, but very abruptly, things changed for the better, and very quickly. a young man, a Matthew Sekai by name, in sorting through a load of the waste materials threw a bit of stone, laden with a deep red mineral, aside, the material known for being useless for any kind of conventional processing, as it simply crumbled to dust. on this day, however, Matthew Sekai's life changed, as he noticed, when the stone hit the ground, that it lit up with a dim light, like a torch through soo thick glass. he also noticed, however, that it didnt just light up, but also drove a bit of stone in the pile of rubble out of the pile, and into the wall, hard enough to crack the smooth stone of the wall. realizing the implication of this reaction, Matthew immedeatly set forth collecting all the stone he could, and after a year of experimentation, designed a very basic, and flawed piston, which could push anything lighter than iron blocks. learning and experimenting with this device, and with the strange material that had been dubbed redstone by others, Matt grew to appriciate the power that could be gained through the application of sciences such as that of redstone, and decided to travel to the great City of Rull, to seek more knowledge in the art. learning all he could there, as well as gaining a better design of piston, and learning to create other devices as well, such as dispensers, and noteblocks, Matthew eventually brought this knowledge back to Horizon, with the dream of raising his hometown out of the poor, unneducated state it was in then, and turning it into one of the greatest cities in mirugan.
Today, in the 17th Age, Horizon has risen to meet this dream, as well as to be one of the safest towns in all of Mirugan, thanks to the very material that had once been poured upon it, as a waste material. now with a trade agreement with cliffside, which still supplies the city with a constant flow of redstone for its projects and constructions, Horizon has become an center for the intellectuals of Mirugan, a place of learning, where those who understand the worth of knowledge can go, without fear that unlearned masses may strike out at what they dont understand. Hidden away within its massive stone walls, themselves constructed with the knowledge Matthew had brought with him, and supposedly protected by some strange force imbued within them by the will of the gods themselves that the the creation not be damaged permanantly, these walls are supposedly impossible to break through without the wrath of mirugan's gods themselves coming down upon the one who did it. these great gleaming stone walls however, are only part of the defenses lain by matthew himself in founding this city, defenses many think will never need be used, but that Matthew knew may one day be needed to ensure his city, protected as it was, could remain a neutral hub of learning, and not be used in a way that would distort his original dream. even today, these defenses, which can cut off entire portions of the city from each other in attacks, or set off alarms to alert the entire city of the threat, lay in wait, ready to be triggered from a building none have broken into to date. Known as Hold Sekai, This imposing Stone brick structure lies apon the highest point within the City proper, and holds traps and machinery of Matthew's own creation to make the building almost impossible to infiltrate when it is locked down. Containing enough machinery to satisfy the rest of the city alone, The Hold can be used in times of attack as a final defense, a place to flee to and outlast almost any attackers, and from it, all the city's defenses can be triggered.
Thanks to all these factors, from the abundance of metal goods and convenient devices, and the city's safe design, Horizon is a hub of life, from people seeking peace away from the wars, to those seeking knowledge, and the city's mayors, through the ages, have never turned away those seeking a place among the city's people, so long as they dont harm the city, or those within it, purposely.
