No, Facebook is NOT public knowledge. Where are you getting your information from? In fact, it is an ILLEGAL OFFENSE to post a picture of someone ANYWHERE on the internet without their permission, so technically half of Facebook shouldn't exist in the first place. When you post something on Facebook, it DOES NOT BELONG TO THE WORLD. It DOES however, belong to Mark Zuckerberg.
So don't talk about things you don't know about.
