About a week ago, Serpum Futos received word the Lunair Blackwind, Inventor and Weapon Development Specialist, was planning on testing a new airship design. After days of waiting, with no response, Serpum grew anxious and worried. So, after gathering a search team of a few Guardians, the men set out on a Search and Rescue.
Travelling down the King's Highway, the team spotted a cloud of smoke just off the side of the road. After investigation, there appeared to be no sign of either Lunair or his crew. Upon further investigation, the men sighted a trail of blood. Following the path, they came across a small cave area, with a bed, small fire, chest, and juke box.
Inside the chest, three items were found. A Flint and Tinder, obviously from starting the fire. A Book, Titled Blackwind Journal- Aeolus Project, and a Broken Record... Serpum Opened the Journal First, and read aloud....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Production is almost complete on the new Aeolus, my solution to the lack trained soldiers and methods of countering ghasts and other airborne Nether creatures. Designed with multiple dispensers, treated internally to fire fire charges as well as arrows, and built with a bomberbay that is capable of covering an area of land underneath with arrows in almost no time. This ship can be launched vertically, thanks to the lifter engines I've designed, mounted to pivoting hinges in the aft of the craft, this airship isn't hindered by a blimp... but there have been minor issues with the engines misfiring. I've managed to work out those kinks though, and now the engines have been firing perfectly for the last three days no matter how long i had them running. I expect to conduct the first lift test tomorrow.
*Next Entry* It's been two days since my last entry, and the test flight was such a success that I've decided to conduct a test flight from Rull to Zicamia to show the king just how effective this ship's range will be. Hopefully, I'll be able to persuade him to purchase the finished ship, as well as my fire charges, and make quite the steady profit from it.
*Next Entry* Today is the first day of the test flight. we departed Rull just a few hours ago, and so far, all the systems are operating optimally. There have been no hiccups or bugs in the systems to speak of so far, and I don't think that there's going to be- (Rest of entry is burned, as well as all but the last three pages.)
*Next Entry* (Written in a bit of charcoal.)
The Aeolus... It crashed... I've no idea what happened... I didn't see any of the rest of the crew... Not alive anyway...I saw Captain Jackobs pinned under some of the hull... The lifting engine... I don't know why.. it overheated all of a sudden, and then exploded.. my arm.. I cant move my right arm now... It's burnt so badly and i think its broken... I just.. i got away from the wreckage, but the ground collapsed under me... I think the damn edge was gravel... I landed in this accursed cave and managed to start a fire before i wrote out this... What the hell's that noise? I hear something from the back of the cave. I'll be going to investigate in a few minutes, but before i do... Serpum's voice trailed off.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Rest.... The rest is a personal message" says Serpum as he closes the journal. Next, Serpum pulled out the record. It seems Lunair had some sort of Live Recording Device, and this illustrated his situation:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Listen Closely, Lunair's Running, Lighting his Fire with the Flint, flipping through his Journal, then one can hear a portal in the background. Just as the sound becomes deafening, all goes quiet...."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upon inspection, a trail of blood is seen leading into a portal against the cave wall.... Dread fills the room, as even the most hardened soldiers are shaken. With a mournful croak, Serpum orders that all the men, besides General Hailmar, be dismissed immediately.
Serpum and Hailmar traveled to Horizon, where they contacted Rei Blackwind, wife of Lunair. They had come to relay the terrible news. While There, Serpum read the final passage of the Journal: *continuing from where he left off*
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hear something from the back of the cave. I'll be going to investigate in a few minutes, but before i do... I hope Rei gets this if I don't get to tell her myself... Stay safe... Don't let yourself get out of control... please. I cant stand to think of your grieving because of me. just remember, No matter what, I WILL come back to you, even if it takes me a while... Just remember that. You'll never lose- (Entry is unfinished, a scribbled m stretching off as though the writer had been grabbed and dragged mid letter.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After reading the Journal, and playing the disc for Rei, she becomes extremely saddened, while small fits of rage burst through her forced calm, trying to compose herself and follow her husbands last wish. While denying his death, Rei is grateful for the relay of the message, and promptly asks the King and General to leave. Walking down the stone steps of Horizon, anyone could feel the sudden lose of hope over the world, as if the hue of the entire world had changed, from a bright white to a steely, depressing grey.
Although a debatable Moral Compass, Lunair was a great man, one who cannot be easily forgotten. The World will not forget one of the brightest minds of the generation. But although the evidence is grand, Serpum knows; If Any Man has the Will to Survive such a fate, Lunair can. Muttering a quiet prayer to the forsaken engineer, Serpum continues his long walk back to his castle.....
