Darmondia
Before there was Darmondia there was Ultor. Founded in 1658 by Alfred Rodrigues, he wanted to create a place where people could come from all over and live peaceful, quiet lives. Unfortunately when people started to learn of this town Alfred began to turn in a profit and grew to enjoy money. It did not take long for Alfred to give in and transform Ultor from a peaceful quiet town into a large, money orientated city.
In 1684 a small civil war broke out in Ultor between those who wanted to return it to its original state and those who wanted to suck in all the money they could. Those that wanted to change back outnumbered those that were greedy by great amounts.
The side of those that wanted Ultor to change back was led by a skilled swordsman named Vetis Oriax who had come to Ultor in order to train in its peaceful settings. Those that sided with greed were led by a man named Kanowen Ganforne. His intentions in Ultor were of the soul purpose of producing income, through any means necessary, he been caught many times laundering currency of all types.
Due to the side of peace’s combatant leader and large numbers it took less than a month for them to push the side of greed into what they deemed as greed’s “home” the shopping district of Ultor. The side of greed was forced to take refuge in what was once a large building full of market stalls. Vetis had men watching the building at all times in order to prevent any chance of escape. While his men were keeping the greedy in a state of quarantine, Vetis and any other volunteers had fallen back in order to build a large wall separating the shopping district from the rest of the town.
On New Year’s Eve of 1686 Vetis had his men ransack every stall and shop in order to ensure that survival of the greedy was impossible. Just as the last of Vetis’s men ran out of the shopping district with their remaining food, supplies and weapons the wall was sealed and the greedy and their leader Kanowen Ganforne were left to perish. Minimal to no supplies and this solid stone walls allowed them no chance of surviving. They were never heard or seen from again.
The side of peace and prosperity renamed the victorious part of town Darmondia and declared Vetis Oriax their mayor as he led them to victory and was the most skilled of the swordsmen in the town.
Contrary to what most believed the small group that was trapped in the shopping district survived for a decent amount of time. The area was dubbed Excision meaning “removal by cutting” due to the fact of Ultor being cut in two and the side of greed had been defeated so they were removed. They had survived many years. Even though resources were dangerously scarce and all remaining inhabitants were fully exposed to the elements, they defied the odds and survived. They resorted to cannibalism and fighting each other for whatever supplies there were. Kanowen Ganforne remained their leader but most defied him and he was soon murdered in his sleep by a hungry inhabitant.
While Excision was falling to plague and corruption, Darmondia was being restored to its original state of peace and tranquility. Vetis was turning the filthy and littered streets back to their glorious and nature enveloped self.
On the night of Sarcolay the 5th in the month of Danu in the year 1688, Vetis was murder in his front yard by some that had survived being trapped in Excision and had somehow managed to escape. The loss of the mayor hit Darmondia hard and they had a struggle trying to find someone worthy enough to replace Vetis.
Darmondia did not have to look for long though. Not because they found someone worthy enough, but because they did not need to. A strange traveler had heard of the loss Darmondia suffered and offered their assistance. At first the residences were not sure whether or not to trust this man but they were desperate so they decided to give him a chance. The man introduced himself as a necromancer but would not say his name.
The members of the town took the many to Vetis’s grave in Rull. He asked them to leave because he needed to concentrate and he was not sure what the outcome would be. Once all the town people left kneeled down and began to recite a spell in an unknown language. Once the spell was complete he stood up and moved back.
Suddenly Vetis’s grave burst into flames and he stood up. Dazed and shocked he looked around and saw the man walking away. He tried to call out to the man but the man did not respond and continued to walk way. Vetis somehow remembered his death and realised he had been revived. He then decided to return to Darmondia and continue to watch over the town.
Upon his return the town was thrilled to see him… but also terrified. Since he was a Knight at the time of his death he had been resurrected as a Dread Knight, the undead form of himself. All that remained of his body was his skeleton. The town was almost contemplating not accepting him back as his new form meant he contained dark magic.
In 1689 the town held a vote to decide whether Vetis would return as mayor. After the voted were tallied it was official, he would continue to watch over the town. In fact not a single person voted against him as he had done a great deal for the town’s people and promised to only harness his newfound powers to defend the town and its people. There was one more benefit of his new form. Being undead meant he would be able to live for a much longer time and possible for ever since he had already died.
By the 17th age Darmondia had been transformed into a beautiful town. Vetis had made it into a place where men, women and anyone else that aspired to train in swordsmanship and any other type of hand to hand or weapon combat could train in peace without all the bustling of a large city. Those that were not pure of heart and seek skill in combat for dishonourable causes were not allowed to rake residence in Darmondia. If anyone was caught committing a crime in Darmondia they would have to face Vetis in a one on one duel. In all his time of being mayor of Darmondia, Vetis never lost to a criminal, which is why the town remains peaceful.
In the year of 1805 Vetis sided with Victor and Seprum in the war between Rull and Lucavex and his followers. All that opposed Vetis’s decision and did not side with Rull were asked to leave the town in order to prevent further complications. Vetis was made champion and blade of the guardians which furthered his towns trust in him. It was now official, the town was on the side of Rull.
Darmondia continues to fight for justice and the good of Rull till this day and shall for as long as Vetis is their mayor. The town is also known as a sanctuary for aspiring warriors and for its justified and kind hearted leader.
