He was an offspring of a noble woman of birth and a great northern warrior. Life in the northern lands consisted of going on Viks to raid enemy territory and spending the rest of your time mining iron and minerals for armor and weapons. Raised in the northern lands under the steps of Valhalla where life was cold and hard. Most didn't last past their first score of years.
At an early age of 13 he had slain his first giant using a stone sword under the guidance of his uncle. Who showed him how to lure the giants into a crevice of a cliff and attack it about the legs and groin. Painful for the human involved if he were stepped on by the giant but even worse for the giant. His victory was celebrated amongst his people. Those were happy days.
That was before the God separated themselves and humans to let them decide their own fate. Now he wonders the frozen waste in search of his own destiny. His people are gone, slaughtered by Naga.
After the Gods left humanity to its own demise, the void was quickly filled by the race called the Naga (in ancient tongues) they were an older violent race that were Draconian snake like in nature and thought of humans as nothing more than there very cattle. Indeed they often raided whole villages and farms and devoured all the inhabitants. Their hard scaly skin is nearly impenetrable by everything but magic swords. The cost of killing each one of these reptilian demons is high.
Ethan's first encounter left him barely breathing with many shattered bones. The ancient sword that he used fared even worse its blade had been eroded by the creatures acidic blood that can dissolve the hardest of substances.
It was the winter of Yorge de Marske when even the deepest swamps and lakes were frozen solid. He had just returned from a vik to find his whole village had been slaughtered. The tracks were nearly wiped away by the creatures slithering tail. If it would have not been for the blood of his kinsmen that seeped from the heads the creature had collected he may not have had a trail to follow. But the carnage left so much blood that even thou it had been more than a fortnight and new snows had fallen he could see the pink shades of blood clearly mixed with snow.
He followed the demon into an ancient cave littered with human bones. The stench of death was so strong that his lungs felt as if they would burst. Deeper and deeper he went into the cave under dirt gave way to rock and rock gave way to ancient steps. Down the ancient steps he traveled until he felt he most be reaching the very bottom of yggdrasil's roots. Lava and water steamed and hissed all around him as the two forces met. But still he pressed on unwilling to turn back. Eventually he reached the epicenter of the cave and the creature stood cracking his people skulls open like walnuts that had been baked. Brain matter ran down the creatures scales and over its serpent neck. Ethan was so enraged he lunged at the creature with all his might thinking he would impale the creature with gjundamere his ancient blade that had been given to him by his father. To his surprise despite the creature being over 8 feet tall it moved like a snake coiled to strike, it easily stepped aside whipping its tail and crushing Ethan's ribs. He spat up a mouth full of blood instantly as the creature moved in for the kill. The blood landed directly into the creatures eyes giving him enough time to back petal and counter the creatures yellow claws. He managed to clip off two of the creatures long dagger like claws. As he did its yellowish green blood sprayed out onto the floor and bones causing more hissing as its acidic blood burned everything it touched. Two more feints and two more broken ribs and the creature had lost a full hand. Finally Ethan was able to deliver the death blow shortly before collapsing into unconsciousness.
Days later he awoke to find himself in a warm den surrounded by other warriors of the north. He than learned that the creature that killed his people was only but one of many. They even had humans who worked for them doing their evil deeds. Many battle followed until he was the last of the group alive.
Now Ethan spends his time always in search of the next blade that will bring him anther victory and against the reptilian demons.
