I had a little trouble deciding what forum this would best fit in to because it wasn't really an RP post but it was about a future RP organization. I decided the AOC Talk forum would be the best because it is more server related. What I wanted to do was give a preview of a guild that I am planning on creating and ask people's opinion. There are a few things about the guild that I think might make it unique even if slightly similar guilds already exist.
The Knights of Dusk will be a semi-religious thieve's guild. This means that the guild will not just be a generic "let's steal stuff and get rich guild." There will be certain rules, certain restrictions on what can be stolen and when. There will be an organized structure will leaders and cells. Even guild members shall not know more than two or three other members in the guild.
The goal of the guild is to provide a focal point for the criminal world of AOC. The guild shall have a single voice by which it speaks and represents the opinions of the anonymous thieves on the server.
The specifics of the guild's functioning and organization will be posted at some point over the next week or so - along with some lore. However, before I got too in to it I wanted to gauge the opinions of people on the server. Particularly the leaders of current crime organizations. Ideally the Knights of Dusk shall be an inclusive organization that allows already extant organizations to function as independent cells within the larger grouping of the Knights.
Between now and when the first few bits of lore are posted. I am looking to see if there are any individuals who might be interested in helping get the guild started. While helping with the beginning of the guild will not guarantee a leadership position (you will still have to complete the standard application quest). It will advance you to a higher rank once you have successfully finished your application.
One note of warning - The Knights of Dusk will not be a guild for the casual thief or the lazy player. The guild will be extremely difficult to join and punishments for those who do not abide by the code of the goddess Shadow will be harsh. Loyalty to Town and Nation will have to be betrayed and you shall have to commit yourself fully to the glory of the Knights. In return you shall be granted access to a wealth and power beyond your imagination and also be part of something truly epic.
So please Message me if you are interested in helping with the beginnings of the guild. Do not post in this thread to indicate your interest - it is of utmost importance that our membership remains secret. I will only accept 6 applicants for the initial wave. The rest shall have to wait until the guild begins in earnest.
For those of your wondering how long it will take there are a number of things which need to be constructed and works of lore which need to be written before the Knights begin operating - my estimate is that it will take around 2 weeks before the guild will begin accepting normal applicants.
Thank you for reading this. I hope some of you will express your opinions in the post below and I look forward to receiving pre-applications from a select few of you.

Note: I forgot to include this in the original post but it's very important - the guild will be an entirely RP organization. This will be true in our communications both on and off of the forums. This means that application letters must be written in the format of a letter in character or they will be denied. I just got one that was just a single sentence saying that this individual wanted to help and that honestly is my fault for not explaining better. Please include in your letter the following information: Name, Town of Residence, Why you want to be part of the guild and Why I should want you to be part of the guild. -Thanks

I'm guessing this is a separate forum account that will speak for the guild?

*twitch* I feel a massacre coming on...
We dont take kindly to competition, as many others can attest. I recommend you cosider the likelyhood of your survival strongly before deciding to try and start a thieves guild of any sort, given the way my associates handle previous attempts at it.

I agree mav, but i have to admit thi s well thought out. Whoever this person is obviously trys alot harder to conceal their identity that the CS leaders. Also he or she said it would be a religious based organisation as well as FULLY rp, unlike the CS. Also these guys just steal they arent assassins so CS wouldnt lose all their business. But i know what your saying, so dont expect a warm welcome from the CS they are not a hollow threat lol.

I think it's quite a cool idea, to have one completely hidden leader that would make dead drops in random places and would send various members to there where they would find information on who to steal from etc. So it's ALMOST and I mean ALMOST a shame that the CS is probably gonna crush them. And this is the CS so it wouldn't surprise me if they allready knew who it was.
EDIT: King of thieves? I think there's a few people that would disagree.

Im saying that the KOD arw only rp, you guys are rp and OOC, thats the difference mav. I dont know if you culd find out if this person only used the forum as a way of communication. I dont think it would be possible for yout oo find out as long as he or she was careful in game.

Minea, read what Mav said more carefully, he said "even if we didn't, it wouldn't take us long to find out." what do you think he is referring to? The CS knows, and they're probably coming for the leader's face.

Yea your probably right, but it would be possible for this person to hide their identity as long as they were careful. I mean this is obviously the organisations account, unless im mistaken. But yea your right Delta i think the CS is very capable of finding out.

A few things RE: posts in this thread and messages I have gotten.
1) The Black Sun is not the name of a particular player - it is the name of the anonymous leader of the Guild. S/he speaks for the guild on the forums, issues commands, organizes raids and ceremonies worshiping our divine leaders. Black Sun is a title not a name and can be granted to whichever guild member happens to be the "Leader" at that time.
As the guild develops there will be a secondary position known as the "Prince of Night" - s/he will be the public image of the guild, speak about and for the guild in-game and be the leader of the city Coranis which will be a town constructed to house retired thieves who have been banished from other kingdoms, and hold the administrative offices of the guild.
2) We are not looking to compete with current guilds and we would like to find ways to work with them instead of against them. If it becomes necessary the Knights shall of course remain loyal to their own guild but we would much rather help and be helped by the already established thieves.
3) In a similar vein we are not looking to compete in the assassination industry - assassinations (and any killings not done in self-defense) are strictly forbidden by the code of the Knights and we shall uphold those laws throughout the guild.
4) More details will come soon: Expect to see an exclusive translation of the ancient text A Complete Guide to Thieving published within the next few days. This guide shall detail some of the skills which must be mastered by a thief and some of the laws which every true thief should obey.
A few days later there will be a few short non-fiction works found in the same archaeological dig published including The History of the Knights of Dusk - adapted from a partially damaged work from the library of Old Coranis. And The Seven Temples of Shadow - a guide to the worship and following of shadow that also provides instructions on how to officially join the guild.
Before I sign off again I would like to inform everyone that there are still four spots left for people who are interested in joining the guild early and helping get things set up. We are particularly in dire need of skilled builders who can help build the application quest.

I'm not sure if you're allowed to start recruiting until its accepted. Oh, my bad - the plan was to get the Guild set up and then officially open it to real applicants but if you would prefer that I look in to getting the guild approved I can do that as well. Would this thread be a sufficient "Application" or should I create another one detailing the guild? There will be lore out next week describing leadership positions and ranks and advancements. The application process will be lore-based/secret but I can tell it privately to a moderator to confirm that there is one if someone on the staff would like that. The general idea of the guild is already in this thread but if you want me to create a different thread for organizational purposes I can certainly do that.

We are particularly in dire need of skilled builders who can help build the application quest. -The Black Sun, King of Thieves and High Priest of Shadow Okayyy Black Sun, this whole operation is the one I already run. The Crime Syndicate fits every parameter you stated, albeit with slight changes due to a longer running time. Except we're not religious, but we're not "steal and get rich" either. We have limitations. We are tightly run. Members are secrets, and the only three public voices are me, Zigggy, and Maver, only because we've been found out over time. We have an organized structure with leaders and cells. We ARE the focal point of the criminal world of AOC. We are intense and fully roleplay, supplemented by OOC hits to roleplay with and OOC raids to do the same. We have very careful and selective recruitment processes as well. On a more technical note from the part of me that is a moderator: You CANNOT recruit until this is accepted, which it HAS NOT BEEN. Also, there is ONLY ONE CRIME ORGANIZATION, which is the Crime Syndicate. IF we allowed multiple organizations of the same type, we would have a million Assassins Guilds and "Protectors of Mirugan" groups. So whoever you are, can join us if you wish (because this is a good app and emulates everything the CS believes in), but this will very likely not be accepted unless you change it drastically. Also, guilds cannot have affiliations with Towns or Nations. Besides which, there are already two thieves' towns.
