Valfor stumbled around Rull, unused to the tall buildings and the bustling city. He was completely disorientated, and as the people of Rull bustled around him, he was bumped off balance and tripped on an uneven flagstone. Valfor swore as he realised he had nearly fallen into the water. He looked for the citizen that had bumped him, but it was impossible. Frustrated, he sat down by the dock for a rest. It had been another trying day. An old man sat next to him. He was looking at Valfor. Or more rather, Valfor’s ears. Valfor pulled his hat down further and looked out to sea, ignoring the man’s green-eyed stare. He sat for an eternity, and still the ancient stayed. Finally, he snapped, and demanded to know who the man was, and what business he thought he had staring at him. His former arrogance burst free and he raged a torrent of unforgivable words at the man, taking out all his anger and frustration at this strange man. But the man did not say anything, but only raised his staff to silence Valfor.
“Oh do be quiet.” he told Valfor. “You are an elf?”
Valfor’s returning gaze gave Spwack Cadmium no doubt.
“An elf… I have not seen one before. You are… strange. How did you arrive?”
Valfor told the man his tale, and prepared to leave for the inn he was staying in. Spwack looked on as the elf stalked angrily back to his temporary lair. “He is not a happy chappy,” Spwack thought. “Should I show him around? Yes, why not, I have not seen such a curio for a while now. “
The next day, Valfor awoke to see a scrawled note on his bedside table. “Bloody ancient, what does he want now?” he thought. The letter read:
Valfor loped out of the hotel without a word of goodbye. Running always cheered him, and he ran along the streets of Rull, happy for the first time. He started singing, and the flowers and the trees turned to look at him, before gently swaying in the wind to his rhythm. Maybe today would hold more success.
Spwack was waiting at the docks. Valfor stopped when he saw him.
“Hello my Elven friend.” Cadmium said, with a hint of a smile.
“Good morning Spwack.” Valfor replied. Usually he would’ve been surly, and would’ve made a point to be as inpolite as possible, but today was different. He felt like a new man, and going straight to the point, asked Spwack why he had been called.
“You will soon know Rull better than you know the back of your hand.” Spwack said, nodding in the direction of the Trade Building. “We will start our tour there.”
Throughout the week, Valfor grew to like Spwack. His erratic behaviour, his black humour, Valfor was beginning to understand it all. With Spwack’s help, Valfor became attuned to Rull and its people, and they became comrades. No longer acquaintances, they formed a strange, but powerful pair, capable of defeating the most terrifying of terrors.

Good morning Valfor.
From what I know of you, you will be grumpy and annoyed when you read this letter. I know you have nothing better to do, so meet me where we met yesterday – at the dock, if you are a simple one. I wish to show you around Rull today. You seem disorientated and confused when you stumble around, and I have decided to help put you straight.
Don’t worry about eating breakfast, I have brought some food with me. Like I said before, meet me at the dock. Now.
Signed,
Spwack Cadmium

An elf and an ancient can truly be a force to be reckoned with.
