I definitely don't think they should be immune, but non-humans may be able to have some resistance, or at least stay non-infected for a while before the plague adapts. This way, non-humans will be able to temporarily fulfill roles currently filled by humans, and to assist the humans. In a HUGE plague, most of the city could shut down, shops closings with owners being infected, the ports being closed off, etc etc.
