Trevast
Trevast, Before it was Trevast:
"The history of Trevast isn't one of great men, but rather a story of normal men that applied their experiences to a land that lead to the creation of a town." -Ahrim Dovino
The very start of Trevast begins with a coastline and a cove. The area had formed a natural harbor perfect for escaping the current of the ocean, providing a safe haven for sailors during storms and other dangers. The stories of sailors washing up on the shores of the cove are some of the oldest pieces of history Trevast has, and it's from these stories that the harbor grew in popularity. It wasn't long until stories of the harbor spread to many sailors forming a reputation of refuge from the threats of the high seas.
The area was especially appealing to fishermen who would use the cove as a camping ground to spend nights close to the waters, where they would exchange tales of their catches and maybe trade something for a bite or two.
Eventually, the trade of fishing supplies and food evolved into a market. Tradesmen found their way by setting up stalls along the coastline, and commerce was born, allowing an economy to develop. Arriving ships transported goods to and from the cove, and business flourished.
As well as fishermen, there were hunters who had been informed of the nearby forest and bountiful game that awaited them there, and after a short while, the main foundations of the local industries were supported by the hides of animals and commodities of various creatures.
The hunters that provided these valuables were a proud group that shared a strong brotherhood and an affinity for stealth, led by a man named Cephrain Vecino. With his band of hunters, Cephrain formed a protective militia that guarded the merchants from pirates and raiders. Because of this, the hunters quickly rose to power and become widely respected. With the protection Cephrain's hunters offered, there were only two obstacles to the promise of a town developing; the inability to effectively process the vast lumber resources of the land into planks suitable for construction, and the lack of a leadership.
The need for materials was in fact so great that it was the only thing keeping Trevast from developing into a fully fledged town.
How could there be building if there was nothing to build with? There were a great number of trees available for logging, but with only fishermen and hunters, there were none who actually knew how to efficiently turn the logs into building materials. It was at this point that a man named Ahrim Dovino arrived.
What had at first been a coincidence of exploration from Rull to the wilderness turned into a golden opportunity. Ahrim had been an explorer, but was looking to settling into a town to call his home and Trevast looked a good a place as any. Having been raised to be a lumber jack, Ahrim quickly found his place in the town selling planks to the merchants.
This turned out to be more profitable than first expected and Ahrim was eventually able to organize the construction of a lumber mill. With a functional mill, the need for wood was finally met and buildings started to sprout up around the cove. With lumber no longer being a problem, Ahrim went on to organize the building of an actual port for ships to dock in.
Things were looking up with both safety and resources secured. Ahrim and Cephrain had both proven themselves capable leaders able to guide Trevast in the right direction. Only one thing had been unanswered; who would lead the town? This seemed to be the growing question on everyone's mind and conflict seemed inevitable.
Sides were quickly taken, and a decision was left to be made; the man who protected the town or the man who raised it? The conflict was escalating and, seeing this, the two men agreed to meet and talk about the town's future.
Rather than fighting, the men actually turned out to agree on most issues, and after a long talk it was decided who would lead the town. Ahrim would officially take care of trade, diplomatic, and residential issues, letting Cephrain focus more on the towns militia and security.
With this agreement, Trevast as it was named was finally able to grow into a fully fledged town it was destined to be. Oh, and there was a dog.
