Mirkwood was founded after the founding of Rull in 652 by Fedwin Moor, a man tired of the noise and constant bustling of the Capital city, Rull. King Carlonaro Rull acknowledged Mirkwood as a growing city and offered help in any way but made clear note that the town was to protect itself and not under the protection of Rull or its forces.
Leafronde began as a residential district for those who may’ve worked in Mirkwood but were unable to find accommodation. It was based near the coast, not very far from Mirkwood itself. Mirkwood’s population was growing quickly, and Leafronde was what Vellton is to Rull now – a small suburb in which people working in the main city could live. Leafronde was part of Mirkwood, and was protected by Mirkwood’s military forces. With the flood of people came religion, and most of Leafronde’s population had a firm belief in Virridia, the god of nature.
In 670, Mirkwood was betrayed twice during The Blackrock War, first when its leader was imprisoned in Rock City by the president Ho’okoa Ruiz, causing the two nations to come into conflict even as the Rull armies continued their advance.
The year 670 is an important one for the people of Leafronde. Mirkwood was too busy with its own business without a leader, and appointed one of their own to take care of Leafronde. Leafronde had their first mayor, Ensis De Silva, and with him came changes. Leafronde were to start their own economy, and to not rely on its mother city for so much. A decision was made to start farming, as the land was rich with nutrients. Many farmers lived in Leafronde, and they were convinced to leave their job in Mirkwood for the time being, and set up a business Leafronde would rely on for the next two decades. Farming became a large part of Leafronde’s society, and Leafronde grew slowly but surely.
In 689, Mirkwood came under attack by a vast Skeleton horde under the command of the semi-mythical figure Zasuti. Despite a valiant defence commanded by King Fedwin Moor at the Battle of the Taren River, the Army of Mirkwood was defeated and forced into a fighting retreat before perishing at a crossroads near the Wooded Home in a second engagement called the Battle of Fedwin’s field. However, Mirkwood did not rise again during the war.
It was later revealed that bandits had intervened to stop reinforcements being sent to relieve Mirkwood, apparently acting out of jealousy of Mirkwood’s coming power and influence. Rull also heard Mirkwood’s call to arms, but were unable to send relief in time.
Mirkwood stood almost completely empty cept for a few survivors that had made their way back to the woodland home.
Many returned to Mirkwood in 689, but by 690, a small group had left to rebuild Leafronde, but not as a suburb, but as a town in its own right. Its farms had been destroyed and without the manpower to rebuild them, the survivors took a different path. De Silva’s son, Jakob suggested fishing, and it was quickly proved to be the right idea. The fishing business could be as small or as large as the situation called for it, and could feed the town in hard times. Mirkwood was always in need of food, and even Rull’s great farms could not provide meals for all its population. De Silva II became the mayor of Leafronde and by 694, Leafronde had recovered and were at their peak, while Mirkwood struggled. Seeing this, De Silva was crowned King of Mirkwood, and became the first person to be both the King of Mirkwood and Mayor of Leafronde. Without Leafronde constantly supplying Mirkwood, perhaps the once great city may have died out.
By 698, Mirkwood was once again a striving village yet kept to themselves in order to preserve their lineage from that point on. Military supplies have been sent to Rull in order to help with battle as the time has come, but many of their people ignore the call all together.
A statue is being erected of King Fedwin Moor, shown creating his city in the trees.
Leafronde is now a fishing based community on the coast of the island on which Mirkwood is built on. The two cities are still close and are almost sister-cities. They share the same military force, and when the time comes, combine to answer the call of arms. The people of Leafronde and Mirkwood still hold a firm belief in Virridia.
Valfor Daethdrial has become just the third person to hold both the positions of King and Mayor. The second was Jerlandis De Silva, the King of Mirkwood before Valfor, who didn’t have an heir to the throne.
Leafronde is neutral.
It's a town that loves nature, like Mirkwood, that accepts Elves, etc. It repels dwarves and others that destroy the earth in their quest for wealth.
