Town Name: New Havenridge
Allegiance : Neutral/Pacifist
Political Stance:
Strongly Pacifist, unlikely to ever ally with or against someone in war unless circumstances are so extreme that there is literally no other choice.
In times of war it is definitively neutral - it will maintain the roads and allow for traveling armies from both sides to make use of them as well as offer temporary protection to political refugees.
Member Requirements:
No racial requirements, our goal is to represent and assist all races and kingdoms. However, to remain a member of the town all applicant must construct a house demonstrating their architectural finesse and competence. If the house is determined to be ugly or over-the-top they shall not be allowed to reside in the town or work with the guild.
Foundation Lore :
((Many of the events referred to here can be found and described in further detail in the second post in ]http://ageofcitycraft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rpjrc&action=display&thread=2991))
Several thousands of years prior to the founding of Rull the city of Havenridge marked the seat of power with a great order of architects and engineers who sought to make the world better. It was there that the legendary Zigmari III spoke with Terminus and there that the order of Roadbuilders was founded and administrated for nigh upon 50 generations until Ariciant XII was defeated by a coalition of several human tribes joined under Chief Nagru who were loyal to no god and sought to gain access to the resources of the Roadbuilders as a result of personal greed.
Now, after the passage of thousands of years, the ruins of Havenridge have been re-discovered by a wandering scribe - Scheyst Libelli. Scheyst has taken it upon himself to revive this great order and fulfill the ancient task of Terminus. Through the linkage of the roads and the force of global trade Scheyst seeks to bring a lasting peace to the land of Mirugan after the past tumultuous decade.
Scheyst and the new Roadbuilders seek to reconstruct the former metropolis and dub it New Havenridge. Much of the organization and structures of the new city shall be designed in the fashion of the old with a heavy focus on stone and glass.
Design and Purpose :
New Havenridge will serve as a base of operations for the Roadbuilder's guild to manage the construction of road, naval and rail networks throughout Mirugan. The location of the city will be determined via a few calculations to minimize the distance between it and any given town (I'll post the math here later this week if anyone who knows some calculus has the spare time to check it).
The town will contain a number of unique structures including:
The Central Station - located beneath the town all subway lines will eventually link to Central in one way or another so that it is possible to access any station in Mirugan from any other station in Mirugan. The central station will serve as a hub for sub-terrestrial travel and will be tastefully designed to show the skill of the guild's greatest architects and builders.
The Great Quarry - located a short distance outside of the town, the Quarry will be the source of stone and other materials required by the Roadbuilders for construction. The Quarry shall also provide access to an extensive strip-mining operation intended to provide access to ores and other resources for tools and rail-construction.
The Production Center - a full quarter of the town shall be devoted to the production of essential materials for the organization. Not only shall the Production Center house the Furnace Room - designed to efficiently process over a thousand blocks or ore or stone, the Center shall also contain a large tree farm, semi-automatic wheat and melon farms, cookie factory and other such necessities.
The Storehouse - a large, organized, multi-floored structure designed to house harvested building materials and facilitate easy shipping. Each floor would have a link to a storage minecart shoot that directly connects to the a switching hub at the Central Station designed for the purpose of sending materials quickly to relevant worksites.
The Libelli Publishing Press - While Scheyst has taken on the administration of the Roadbuilders he has not forsaken his scholarly ambitions and will continue to seek out ancient and interesting texts to publish for public use.
In the center of the town there shall be the Tower of Terminus - functioning as a town hall and also housing the administrative and defensive offices of the guild as well as providing temporary residences to guests the Tower of Terminus shall scrape the heavens with the Altar of Terminus at its pinnacle awaiting those pilgrims strong enough to make the climb.
The North East Quadrant shall house the Production Center, the South East Quadrant shall consist of the Storage Center.
The South West Quadrant shall contain initiate and engineer housing, plots will be smaller than those in the the North West Quadrant where the Bricklayers and Architects shall reside. All houses shall be designed by the first person to own their plot, failure to design an attractive house that demonstrates an ability to plan and execute successfully shall result in expulsion from the town/guild and serve as a sort of entrance test for applicants to prove their worthiness.
If chest shops ever return a market-place shall be constructed outside the town walls as well as plots for foreign Embassies - all of whom are welcome to represent themselves in our city.
Meta-Justifications for Town Application
I'm a fairly active player, despite having been gone over the summer and have the time to put in to managing this town/guild. I am good at planning and leading communities and have lead towns on other servers containing 40+ members without trouble.
Having a central location for item-storage, construction and administration is absolutely essential to managing a career-type guild. Towns provide morale, a sense of unity and a sense of purpose. They allow us to consolidate the production process and maximize efficiencies instead of having to deal with the chaos of multiple independent members scattered about Mirugan.
Furthermore, a central town is of even greater importance for a guild like the Roadbuilders, being able to have a central hub for the subway and road networks simplifies organization and accelerates construction meaning that the guild can get jobs done more cheaply and easily.
Finally, I know that there was an ongoing discussion about which town would be ideal for newer members to join after getting their Bios approved. I think that New Havenridge would be the ideal fit. Roadbuilding can be a relatively simple task that gives a very clear and definite goal to new players, the sense of belonging to a guild and having veteran players to work with and befriend can help increase retention rates and, even if the players ultimately leave, the time they would have spent wouldn't have been used to pillage resources from the land but instead to do something constructive for the server.
So, that's my app for New Havenridge - if anyone sees something I should add, remove, recant, clarify or re-state in haiku please tell me. Hopefully this is good enough for me to get approval and start building, the sooner construction of a town starts the easier it will be to build an actual transit network.
