As was suggested this will be a file on how to RP well and keep things rolling smoothly. Just a few suggestions, and then everyone else can comment and I'll add them to this document according to relevance.
1: No God-Modding:
For those of you who don't know, God-modding is taking a direct and unstoppable action or doing something that isn't possible for your character. Things like "Joshivar punches Armendey in the face and instantly knocks him out" or, "Armendey kills all three guardians without even blinking an eye" Are simply not acceptable. Not only are these two actions impossible, they sound arrogant and too strong.
Almost always should you give your opponent a chance to respond, such as "Joshivar swings a fist at Arteron's head." Which now lets Arteron have the option of blocking, dodging, or even actually taking the punch. Many good RPers would know that Joshivar is an equal match to Arteron as long as they are both unarmed and brawling, as Arteron is very good with a spear, and Joshivar uses magic. This means Arteron would most likely block or deflect the punch, or take the hit but stay standing and retaliate by trying to strike back.
2: No metagaming:
Metagaming is using knowledge from out of character while you are in character. If Deneal.Sabani didn't know that Armendey.Gwydion had alerted everyone of a figure approaching in the distance, he wouldn't know if there was a welcoming party waiting for him. He would be suprised as any normal person would be.
If I see on Global chat that the Barbarians are massing outside of Var Farms, but I haven't seen it IRP or one of my towns guards hasn't reported it, I have no idea it's happening, and can't suddenly call an alert and for battle stations.
Another, much smaller form of metagaming that I myself have done is to assume someone's race. It can be easy to tell with Elves and Dwarves, especially Endrites, but with Humans and Vampires it's much more difficult. Also do not assume to know someone's name. If you've heard of them and been given a detailed description then it's likely you could make an educated guess, but do NOT simply walk up and say you know them. This will usually lead to you being ignored, or (in most cases politely) reminded you don't know who they are.
This is why introductions are very important in rp, it lets people know who they're dealing with.
As for places, for a very long time no one knew that certain places existed, so they couldnt' have magically showed up there like, oh yeah I totally knew this was here.
When Joshivar first met Matthias.Zael and Datric.Ladimore, all he knew was that they were great warriors, and veterans of several battles. They did not know him, and performed their end of rp magnificently by not assuming any knowledge other then a hooded figure had led them into a dark building. They remained on guard throughout the encounter, never trusting that they could simply kill this new person.
3: There are no orcs.
Stop bringing them up.
4: Comment here and bring up other things I can add. Thanks in advance for all of the support on this one.
