My name is Rune.Elric . I'm an elven rogue of 27 years old. Many people question me, and wonder what encouraged me to leave the woods, to leave my life of the past behind. My answer to them is that I never left the woods behind, I just found a new setting. My life could span many hours in the tale of a bard, but I shall make it as simple as I can. I was born mostly alone, and lived my childhood much the same way. At my birth, my father was an outlaw, and my mother too blinded by love to leave him. I never understood why we always ran until I was about eight summers old. At that point I was old enough to ask a serious question and be given the truth in the eyes of my parents. So I asked, and the truth I was given. My parents had always told me to behave and follow all laws and structures. I was outraged at the truth because of how hypocritical that made them seem at the time. I clubbed my father to knock him unconscious and reported him to the nearest woodsman, several hours run away. I realized that as a mistake when I returned to that campsite to find nothing but a smoldering fire pit and realized I left mother alone and tied neither of them to even slow their escape. My parents were never seen again, and I was sent to live in a large city, full of humans, full of violence, and nearly devoid of the animals and forests I'd grown so used to. I had to live with a foster family, but they were elves as well, and slightly understood my longing, which lessened my pains. They fed me well, and I lived with them for several years, until I was fifteen years old, at which point they gave me a choice. They told me I could either continue to live with them, since I was now old enough to do hard labor in the farm with the pigs, or go my own way. I of course chose the latter, and was presented with an ebony bow and a fully stuffed quiver with steel-tipped arrows. They sent me on way with that and some light leather armor. I occasionally returned with
meat, and more often than not several bottles of ale.
At 20 years old I was recruited for border defense at Var Farms, as a marksman in the woods. I met a half elf in the line of duty, and I worked along side him to the last days of his life.We were keeping our eyes open for creatures trying to wreak havoc in the city, when they stormed us. I survived to tell the story, but Johnathan, my partner, fell to the creatures. I was injured, and have the scars to show. I have a scar on my left arm from a sword slash, and all up my right leg from a ghast with a strong fireball skill. I was healed by a cleric after the battle had been won, and left service as a soldier, but made my living as a woodsman and a forest ranger for the kingdom at the age of 23 years.
At the age of 25 years,I gave the city one more chance and left the woods. While I was in town, I was nearly murdered by what I believed to be a deranged man at the moment. I was walking through an alley to get to a local tavern and listen to the latest news and rumors, find out what I didn't know during my self-proclaimed seclusion in the woods. As I was walking through the alley, I heard light footsteps approaching, and cast them aside until they were right behind me. I rested my hand on the dagger at my side, up until I felt a hand lay on my shoulder and some thing sharp poking at my neck. I drew my dagger before the man could move again, and plunged it into his his thigh, before spinning and bringing the man to the ground, and resting my blade on his throat. He smiled. His teeth were sharp, incredibly sharp, but lacked the appearance of teeth that had been simply filed for an intimidation factor. I pulled a length of twine out of my pouch and bound the mans hands.I took to the nearest guard tower and dropped him the floor, then proceeded to tell them the story. I was immediately tackled to the ground, and my neck was examined.
'You're a lucky one' they told me, and could tell by the look on my face that I was confused. "come see" they said. They took me into a back room in which they slayed the man. They made small cuts on the arms and legs, (after tying him down securely, of course) and inserting arrow heads, before shoving a large handful in his mouth. They dipped a sharpened wooden cross in a bottle (A potion of poison, I later learned) and plunged it through his heart, before taking a large axe, and beheading him. I soon learned he was a vampire, what that meant, how best to slay them, and how lucky I was to survive that encounter. I also soon noticed that everywhere his skin hadn't covered in his trip here was covered in burns and blisters. I used this information to find a new occupation. I took up a career as a professional. Doing work for kings, queens, and citizens, both wealthy and otherwise, who harbored a suspicion that their subjects or neighbors were vampires. Since then, that has been my job, but I've been hearing rumors of new heroes rising, who showed feats similar to mine. That news encouraged me to broaden my horizons, and take up some exploration. I am a new explorer, looking for a party, if you will, to explore alongside.
