Founded by an avalanche survivor Mond Feuer, the town of Khione is his refuge from the harsh tundra. Khione follows the tribal rules its mayor grew up with, endangering the tribe is a members greatest sin.
Being so deep in the inhospitable tundra Khione has engaged several difficulties, namely the ever present storms of snow, and piercing winds. What started as a man seeking shelter in a volcanic cave system to escape the cold, has turned into a sanctuary from the frost. Using the techniques of his tribe Mond has built an oasis, food growing from the heat and minerals of magma pools, and walls of Cold Fire(obsidian) to shield their makeshift homes from the unforgiving weather.
The unique color of Cold Fire seems attracts those lost in the snow covered landscape. Survivors of the accidental pilgrimage have come from all edges of the world, some elf, others barbarian, even some scientists that questioned the use of obsidian for walls.
As time passes, what started as faint whispers deep in the caves below the town has escalated to occasional wails that shake even the most battle hardened individual to their bones. Mond had noticed the odd discoloration of Cold Fire on this side of the barrier, and thought nothing of it as he built the walls. Maybe the tribal tales of it being the barrier between the world of the living and that of spirits were not so far fetched.
Several people have vanished from their homes, first just an odd gentleman with a passion for bread, then some settlers who attempted to take up residence outside the walls of Khione. Even the few people who remain seem to be losing sanity, encasing their homes in obsidian, and lava.
