Mercer - A Test of Faith
Mercer was relived when he heard Annabeth would live. It took him about ten minutes to carry her to a nearby road when he spotted Philat. Philat was a good friend of his. Mercer quickly explained what happened to Philat. Once Mercer had finished talking, Philat immediately agreed to help carry Annabeth to a hospital. As soon as they arrived and explained what had happened, the doctors took Annabeth away to the emergency room. Mercer tried to follow the doctors, but the nurse told him "They need complete concentration to operate on her. For her sake, please just sit down." Mercer didn't like it but he reluctantly sat down with Philat.
They sat in place for hours, waiting restlessly for them to come out of surgery. Philat tried to talk to him several times but when Mercer just replied with quick, short answers, Phialt saw that he wasn't interested. "If you don't mind me asking, who is she?" Philat quietly asked. "Her name is Annabeth. I saved her life a long time ago when she had been shot several times and was close to death. She stayed in Rome while you were gone and helped me build Rome up to where it is today. She vanished occasionally, but she always returned. She never told me why though. Then she saved my life today...." Mercer said mindlessly. "Were you two close?" "Yes.... I had planned on asking her to marry me soon." "Mercer quietly said. "Ah." Mercer stopped talking to let Philat think about what he had said. So they waited....for hours. Then finally one of the doctors came out and said to him, "She will live, but she is in a deep coma now." "When will she wake up?" Mercer asked. The doctor sighed and replied, "We do not know. She could be like this for years, or wake up tomorrow. Only time will tell." Mercer quickly asked, "Is there anything we can do in the meantime?" "We can move her to the hospital in Rull. They have more advanced equipment to monitor her condition. The soonest we can move her is the day after tomorrow." the doctor said slightly sympathetically. Philat grabbed Mercer's arm and said, "Come on Mercer you need some rest. There's an inn nearby. We'll come back and see her in the morning."
The next day passed by very quickly. They visited Annabeth, who still didn't look any better, and walked around the small village. They had heard from the locals that monsters visited the town at night, but it hadn't happened in so long that they assumed that the attacks had just stopped. So they went back to the inn and began to prepare for the journey to Rull. The next morning a medical convoy set out (with Annabeth, Mercer, and Philat with them of course). They journey itself was uneventful, for which Mercer was thankful for.
After they arrived in Rull and the doctors assured Mercer (this took several hours) that Annabeth would be fine, he and Philat returned to Rome. Mercer kept thinking back to the moment where Annabeth had saved him. Because of his lack of skill, she had nearly died. He refused to let this happen again. So he spent the next few months training like he never had before. During this time, he let Philat take over development of Rome. About three months later, Mercer had improved. Not a lot, but enough that he felt that he could understand his surroundings much more now. It was around this time that he decided to visit Annabeth. Unfortunately, she was still the same. He stayed and talked to her wondering if she could hear him. After a while though, he had to leave, as it was getting dark. As he was walking down the hallway, he heard a voice say "Who the hell are you?? Answer me!!" It's not possible, Mercer thought. Then he heard a loud crash from Annabeth's room. He had already starting running toward her room when he heard that voice. It was rough, but he knew immediately who it was. When he got back in her room, all he could was study the scene before him with excitement, fear, and dread....

Annabeth - Awakening and Visitations.....
About a week after she had began picking up the pieces of her mind, Annabeth had finally regained enough of herself to see a light in the midst of the madness. "About damn time." she thought. She walked toward that light...... And found a man coming through her window with a small dagger and a vile of poison. She pretended to still be asleep while he crept towards her. As he stood over her with his dagger raised high, he muttered to himself, "Die, you heartless bitch." As soon as he began to stab downward, Annabeth grabbed the man's wrist and redirected him into a wall. She took the dagger from him and drove it into his shoulder. "Who the hell are you?? Answer me!!" she screamed. It was at this time that her vision began to fade to black. "Not again..." she though. As she fell to the floor, she caught a glimpse of Mercer running into the room.
"Why do you tease me with false hope??" she yelled into the darkness. She heard a rich, deep voice replay, "Because Nightslash, we are here to test you. Just as was agreed long ago." "Agreed by who??" "The old one. He told us that if we do not prepare you, the world will be forever lost. Engaged in endless conflict, never ending darkness." the voice said this like she should already know it. "Isn't that the kind of thing you would want?" Annabeth asked in darkly. "I am merely the darkness that keeps the light from engulfing all. Just as that very same light keeps me in check. If one side has more power than the other, the world would ether enter an endless war or an all consuming fire would burn the everything you know to ash." "Now I only have one question. Why me? Why not a legend?" asked Annabeth. "Legends stand as icons, beacons of hope for those who remain blissfully ignorant of this ageless confilct. Then there are those who help the legends without being seen. THESE are the ones that make the legends who they are. You are one of those people Annabeth. Now brace yourself, your training resumes now."
The assault on her mind went for hours. She begged. She screamed. It nearly broke her will to continue. She was almost driven straight into the madness but she saw a light in the midst of the darkness. Once again, she had found found herself in the inner sanctum of her mind. She inspected it, noticing how it had changed since her last visit. As she was inspecting the differences of the sanctum, she found a sliver figure, emitting a beautiful, glorious light. "Great, another one... What are you?" Annabeth muttered. "I am the light that counters the darkness in times of need. But that is not important right now.Beware, for It approaches! Time is short and you shall be called upon soon. The darkness and myself shall be your guides through these troubled times." the sliver figure said franticly. "What are you talking about??" Annabeth asked. "What is coming?" "A great disaster is coming an-" that was all the time the figure had to say before she was pulled back into reality.
Annabeth woke up with several people standing over her. They were all still focused on talking about something, as they kept arguing and pointing at different things around the room. Annabeth decided to use this to her advantage. She grabbed a dagger off one of the men and turned him around so that she had the dagger pointing at his neck. The doctors were very surprised by this and began to talk to her very fast, attempting to explain what was going on. Annabeth didn't care. She only wanted to know two things. "Where am I??" she asked threateningly. "You are in Rull hospital." one of the men stammered. "How long have I been out?" she asked in the same tone, her eye's flashing into a deep tone of black. "It's been about three months Annabeth." Mercer said as he walked into the room. When she heard his voice, Annabeth's eyes returned back to their normal color. She immediately dropped the dagger and ran toward Mercer and embraced him in a hug. "Never do that to me again." Mercer whispered to her. "I won't." Annabeth quietly replied back to him. "We still need to run numerous tests on her and evaluate her mental stability." one of the doctors commented. "I don't need any tests preformed on me. As you saw earlier, I am physically and mental fit. Or do I need to demonstrate that again?" Annabeth said calmly. The doctors quickly signed a few papers and Annabeth was released later that day.
"Do you need me to walk you home?" Mercer said concerned. "No, go on ahead. I just need a moment to gather my thoughts." Annabeth told him. Mercer was hesitant to leave her again, but he did as she said. About ten minutes later, as Annabeth walked out of the hospital, she heard a voice speak do her. "Your love will betray you." Who's there??" Annabeth yelled into the darkness. "Your path is filled with corruption..." "Who are you??" yelled a frustrated Annabeth. "You will under stand in time... Annabeth...." the voice chuckled "I am the embodiment corruption.... You would say that I am the Angel of Corruption...." and with that, the presence left, leaving Annabeth filled with dread and confusion.....
